V-Cockpit GPS 2.0

FAQ

Q: Why does "GPS Signal" blink?
A: Because your iPhone did not receive GPS data yet (maybe you are inside a building), or your device does not have GPS capability, or you tapped NO when the popup asked you to allow access to location data.

Q: What can I touch?
A: The compass on the top, the text display, the artificial horizon and the 4 gauges. Try tapping the horizon in night vision mode.

Q: The compass does not seem to work.
A: Except for the iPhone 3GS, the compass is GPS based. You have to be moving in any direction for the compass to show the current heading. Higher speeds improve its accuracy.

Q: The GPS data are wrong.
A: Accuracy depends very much on your surroundings, location and speed. It is limited by the iPhone's GPS sensor.

Q: Why is there a * in front of the heading on the iPhone 3GS?
A: It indicates that the magnetic compass is not calibrated. Recalibrate by waveing the iPhone in an 8 figure and move it away from any interference.

Q: What is the blinking arrow?
A: The arrow appears if you rotated the device by 90°. Tap it to confirm the interface orientation. You can turn it off in the setup screen.

Q: What is the mirror button on the LCD for?
A: Tap it, then place your iPhone underneath the windscreen in your car, position it to get a nice reflection and voila - say hello to your car's new heads-up display.

Q: What are the 2 buttons on the diagram screen?
A: The clear button resets the gauge's maximum value and clears the diagram. The email button opens the mail application and attaches a CSV file with the data to a new mail.

CALIBRATION

The setup screen offers two options for the artificial horizon:
'Calibrate all axes' also calibrates the horizontal axis when you press the 'CAL' button, instead of only calibrating the vertical axis.
'Invert X axis' is useful when centrifugal (centripetal) forces dominate, e.g. in a car.

DISPLAYED DATA

SPEEDOMETER
The speed, measured in the selected units (mph, km/h, kts). The scale ends at 240, for higher speeds use the digital display. The red needle indicates the maximum value (can be reset with the 'CAL' button).

ALTIMETER
Your current altitude in the selected length units (m, ft). The large, thin needle displays 0-100, the 2nd needle 0-1,000 and the small, thick needle 0-10,000.

VARIOMETER
The vertical speed in 1,000 units (m, ft) per minute, i.e. how fast your altitude is changing.

ACCELEROMETER
The sum of the acceleration in all 3 axes in g units. On planet earth, 1.0g is the g-Force on a static body. The red needle indicates the maximum acceleration.

HUD
Tapping on the artificial horizon shows the head-up display. The left and right scales indicate the current speed and altitude. In the middle there is the artificial horizon, above and below is the compass (digital and analog).
