| 8.1 Introduction |
| |
In the projects tab you can create new projects, load, save, delete or export saved songs into wave or MIDI files which you can later transfer to your desktop.
Projects (songs) are stored in the .xms file format,
a custom and small format for Xewton Music Studio.
It contains:
- Tracks, their recorded notes and parameters
- Song tempo, signature, markers
- Effects settings
- Keyboard layout (number of rows etc.)
- Metronome settings
- Some user-interface settings (selected track etc.)
The following settings are not contained in an .xms file,
i.e. they remain unchanged if a project is loaded:
- Key label mode
- Setup tab preferences

| 8.2 Filename textfield |
| |
|
If a project is selected, its name is written in the textfield, otherwise it shows "Enter filename here". If you want to save the current song, tap the textfield to bring up the keyboard (be patient, this may take a few seconds) and enter the filename, then tap save. Tap the X icon on the right of the textfield to clear it.

| 8.4.5 Export |
| |
|
|
Songs can be exported into MIDI and wave format. After you chose the desired format and tapped ok, the selected file will be loaded, exported and your current project will be loaded again.
The format of a wave file will be 44kHz 16bit stereo. Only the range between the left and the right song markers of the selected song is exported into the new .wav file.
Exported MIDI files will be format 1 files, i.e. each track is written into a MIDI track on a separate MIDI channel. Instruments are translated to closely match the GM (General MIDI) standard voices.

| 8.4.6 Server |
| |
|
|
If your device is in the same WiFi (WLAN) network as your Mac or PC, files can be exchanged by tapping the server button and entering the displayed URL into the Mac or PC's browser. Alternatively you can create an Ad-hoc network with your Mac or PC and join it with your iPhone/iPod Touch.
Tap the Server button and follow the instructions given in the popup. In the browser, click a file to download it, or click upload to copy an .xms, .mid or .zip file onto your iPhone or iPod Touch. ZIP files are automatically decompressed. The browser interface also allows selection, seeking and deleting multiple files (deleting hundreds of files in-app would be quite tedious).
In order to use the easier Bonjour URL (e.g. http://iPhone3GS.local:8080) instead of the IP (e.g. http://192.168.1.40:8080), PCs need to have Bonjour installed (comes with iTunes).
