Instrument saving problems after new iOS update. iPad mini 2

Postby Woodpecker » Tue Jul 07, 2015 8:04 pm

After recent iOS update I noticed two problems. First, saved user instrument disappears from list, still if you name your new instrument with the same name, program tells you that filename already exist. Audio files and instruments can be seen in folders in projects window.

When you make a copy of your instrument, it will show on list (original is still missing). However all samples that you have imported will sound like terrible digital noise. This happens after you have closed program and restarted it again.

Samples are 24bit, 48KHz stereo and mono.

Re-installing doesn't help.

This sounds like a severe bug, but unfortunately I cannot reproduce it. Here's what I tried:
- Created an instrument A
- Created an instrument B
- Saved a project that uses both instruments
- New project
- Restarted Music Studio
- Loaded the project again -> works fine, both instruments are in the list.

What happens if you follow the steps above?
Do you have any additional information that could help us to replicate the bug?

Hi Alex,

I'll try that with fresh installed program as soon as I can.
Also, I need to try convert samples to .mp3 and see what happens.

It's not my primary sampler so this is not a disaster. 8-)

What kind of additional info you would like to have?

Let me think...
  • How many user instruments are in your list?
  • Do the instrument's names contain any special characters?
  • How many samples did you import into the instrument that got damaged later?
  • Anything out of the ordinary ;)

Ok,

I had only one user instrument + copy (1) of it.

Names don't contain special characters.

Not many samples, less than ten and not very long.

I'll get back to you with some screenshots.

Hi Alex!

After the second re-install user instruments seem to appear correctly in the user instruments list.
That's nice. 8-)

Now back to that distorted sound issue, which still exists, but now I can give you more detailed report how everything goes.

I create a new user instrument and import three separate mp3 samples(44.1 320kb) and three separate wav samples(48, 24bit). Samples are identical except audio file format.

Everything works fine. Now I make a copy of the original instrument. Everything still ok.

Then I close the program and restart it. All 48,24 wav samples in the copied instrument are distorted. Mp3 files sound fine. Original instrument is ok.

Of course I do this procedure again with new instrument and again the result is distorted 48,24 samples in copied instrument.

It ONLY seems to consern copy number one. If I make a second copy from original instrument it's clean. If I make a copy from first copied instrument all 48,24 samples are distorted.

Phew! ...the worst problem is a problem that only occurs once....

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the thorough bug report, now I can reproduce it! All samples that are not 44kHz 16bit are damaged when duplicating the instrument, but only after restarting the app.
What an odd bug...we'll fix it in v2.6.1.

Ok, user instruments are disappearing from the list like they did before.

Maybe something to do with 24/48 samples too...

- Create new user instrument. Load it full of 24/48 samples. Maybe make a few loops (don't know if that effects on anything). Close the program and restart it. Instrument missing! You can still see it in folder.

I did this multiple times with same results.

I think this conserns that particular instrument that you import your samples to. Even if that instrument was a copy of previous instrument.

--------------------------------------------

Maybe I should go out more often...

It's probably related to the bug that we fixed for v2.6.1. The instrument file exists in the Instruments folder, but it is damaged and cannot be loaded (because of non-44kHz-16bit samples) and thus it doesn't appear in the instrument list.
