Connecting acoustic through Scarlett interface

Postby John4356 » Sat Jan 14, 2017 11:44 pm

I have been unable to record a track playing my acoustic through my Scarlett i818. Is it possible? If yes--how please? I have full version of Music Studio.

Is it class compliant? which version is it?

Can you record your guitar into other iOS apps with it?

I just looked at the Focusrite site and it's not specified whether it works with iOS as far as I can see. At the least it looks like a big beast that would need a powered usb hub

Do you have the 1st gen or 2nd gen model of the Scarlett 18i8?

The Focusrite OS compatibility checker says that the Scarlett 18i8 1st gen is iOS compatible:
https://us.focusrite.com/downloads/os?product=Scarlett+18i8+first+gen
"The Scarlett 18i8 is a class compliant device and so will work on a iPad via an Apple camera connection kit, although please note it is not officially supported."

But iOS is not listed for the 2nd generation:

It is class compliant and 2nd generation. I can unplug it from iPad and plug into the laptop and it records just fine. I can record on other DAWS on the iPad. Music Studio sees the Scarlett, recognizes it, but I cannot find any "input" selections choosing the channel. It only offers midi input through the Scarlett. My acoustic is not a midi. My ignorance is showing I know. I just don't understand.

Sorry if this is a silly question, but have you created a new audio track in MusicStudio?

Audio inputs should be selectable in the audio track window, as shown in this screenshot:

Which options does the channel dropdown menu present to you?

Thank you to Bianca and Alex! I am living proof there is life after ignorance. It is working. The problem was me and your questions and pointing in certain directions helped greatly. Now a whole world of new challenges face me. After laying down a few tracks, I realize there are many tools I need to understand and use. Again, thank you.
