Splitting Up Keyboard Without Splitting Up Tracks

Postby Android_Fan » Thu Jul 27, 2017 8:00 am

Hello,

Sometimes it would come in handy to split up the keyboard in two rows just to have a larger keyboard range. But unfortunately the track also splits up if you do so. Is there a way to prevent Music Studio from splitting the track?

Hi again,

I just tested it out. If you create two rows in the keyboard screen, Music Studio splits up the track as well (in an upper and a lower track). Recorded notes will be stored depending on whether keyboard row they were played. If you switch the keyboard rows into one again (by using the button in the keyboard screen), the second track (below) will disappear without a warning. That means, you will suffer a data loss (and that in the worst case without noticing it).

A workaround is to split up the rows and record your notes. After that, we can move all notes from the lower track into the upper and just delete the lower one.

This of course is not a really nice behavior of the app. Hopefully Alex will do something, to make it better in the future.

Along with that, I noticed a funny bug:
While playing back the song, all the notes from the upper track will be shown as pressed keys in both keyboard rows. The notes from the track below also will be played back, but not shown as pressed keys on the keyboard.

In my opinion, Music Studio should either show all notes from each track as pressed notes or (and this would be the most logically) it should show the notes from the upper track in the upper row and those from the lower track in the lower row.

Hi Marc! Thanks for your suggestions!

Is there a way to prevent Music Studio from splitting the track?

No, because Music Studio is built around the concept of 1 instrument per track. A track cannot trigger multiple instruments.

If you switch the keyboard rows into one again (by using the button in the keyboard screen), the second track (below) will disappear without a warning.

That's a bug, thanks for reporting it! Music Studio should only delete the second track if it's empty, but it should leave it untouched if it contains notes. We'll fix that in the next update.

While playing back the song, all the notes from the upper track will be shown as pressed keys in both keyboard rows. The notes from the track below also will be played back, but not shown as pressed keys on the keyboard.

Right, that's a known issue that still exists because the split keyboard is not a main feature, it was added as a "nice to have" addition in an update. But we'll try to improve this behavior in version 3.
