Using MIDI contoller app to record into Music Studio

Postby dramus » Thu Oct 29, 2015 4:50 pm

I've been trying to figure out a way to record MIDI notes into a MIDI track in Music Studio, using a MIDI controller iOS app (like Arpeggionome Pro, or Step Poly Arp). I came across an interesting solution by playing around with the Inter App Audio functionality in Music Studio, just by accident this morning. I will share it later, when I've experimented a bit more to make sure it works consistently. But I wanted to know...

1. If anyone knows how to do this? (not sure if my solution is the proper way to do this).

2. Does anyone know if apps like Midi Bridge, MIDI Bus or MIDI Flow are capable of doing this, and still preserve the "count in" set in Music Studio?

Thank you.

Recording from an external CoreMIDI source (an app or an external keyboard) works straight forward, without using other apps like MidiBridge. There are 2 ways:

1. CoreMIDI
See http://www.xewton.com/musicstudio/doc/?id=10#MIDI_ports_.26_channels_popup

2. Inter-App Audio
This only works with apps that are Inter-App Audio instruments, but there is no MIDI I/O configuration to be done. See http://www.xewton.com/musicstudio/doc/?id=13#Inter-App_Audio
