Velocity detection

Postby RezaYazdi604 » Wed Mar 15, 2017 7:32 am

Does Music Studio recognize the velocity sent by a Core MIDI keyboard?
It seems no matter what velocity is sent it doesn't affect the sample played.
Thx

Yes, Music Studio considers the velocity of notes coming from the MIDI input. However, it does not change the sample ("velocity samples" is already on the list of feature requests) but only the volume.

The same goes for the "internal" keyboard if velocity is enabled in the keyboard setup.

Thx for the reply Alex. What do you mean by volume? I always thought high velocity is high volume and low velocity is low volume. My keyboard send the NoteOn (1, pitch, velocity). Do I have to send a different command?

If I use velocity with default instruments (not my own samples instrument) will it work?

Thanks again for this great app and your support.

Just to clarify when I send the NoteOn with velocity 40 or 120 I don't hear a difference in volume of the played notes. Is this normal or am I missing something here? I only tried it on my sample based instrument and haven't tried them on default instruments yet.

Never mind. These was a bug in my MIDI Keyboard SW sending fized velocity. I fixed it and it's now working fine i.e. The volume is controlled by the velocity.
