Triplet button on pianoroll?

Postby lee » Sun Oct 24, 2010 10:30 pm

Mr Gross,

this software is really amazing!

But, I cant seem to find a way to input triplets into the pianoroll edit.

(I know I can record live and triplet-quantize, but I`m not so fond of playing live on my iphone, so I prefer to use it as a step edit sketchbook.)

Please, could you place a triplet button on the pianoroll next to the dotted note button? If you think there´s no room for it, maybe you could modify the dotted button to become a "hold and choose between dotted/triplet"-button?

Regards,
/Johnny

Thanks for your feedback, Johnny!

Yes, that would be the only way on the iPhone (there's plenty of space on the iPad).

I added it to the list of updates.
 If the triplet button would make your life easier, post it here and its priority will increase.

I have an additional idea, but I'm still figuring it out myself.
So please bear with me if it sounds weird.
How about making the "Quantize" button in the piano roll editor tap-n-hold?
1. If you hold it, a drop-down menu (or rather a drop-up menu in this case) would appear and you could simply move your finger to the desired note q value and let go. That would set a global q for all operations.
As a major bonus, this would save us all the value buttons on the bottom bar when writing new notes with the pen tool, changing length, moving and duplicating notes. You would only need the "q" button. You'd have the whole screen at your disposal for selecting (whether it's 1/64, triplet 1/32 or dotted etc.).
2. Simply tap the "q" button to quantize selected notes accordingly (when not in any mode) or switch q on/off in drawing/moving mode.
I don't know if it's plain enough for you guys to understand, but all I know is that cubase works that way and it'd be an awesome improvement to the interface if we had something similar.

If this makes no sense, I'd happily go with the idea above.
Using Music Studio on an iPod touch 2G (16GB iOS4).

Thanx for adding my request to the update list, Alex.

Actually I think your suggestion sounds like a really good idea TecWeed!

I also would appreciate a way for an easier handling of triplets. :)
